We flew from Guatemala City to Mexico City in a very nice, cheap flight with a new airline called Interjet. If you would like to see the distance between the two cities on a map, click here. We were excited to meet Francois and Gabriel, our good friends who live in Toronto and with whom we are spending the next 2 weeks.
Many of us have been given an impression of Mexico from the media and while those reports of the violence that has plagued this country are completely accurate, it is not the only impression one should have.
Mexico City is a gigantic place; when flying over the city, the suburbs stretch on and on. Anywhere from 20 to 30 million people live in this area depending on how one measures its size. We visited only a few areas and while we were there felt completely safe, even walking back to our hotel at night: La Condenssa, Centro Historico/Zocolo, and La Roma.
Mexico City is extremely clean and yet we saw very few trash cans. The city is very walkable as the intra-city highways are lined with sidewalks, loads of trees and public art.
Nearly every intersection had a statue or monuments and the architecture of the buildings were quite nice. Construction of new large building was also going on while we were here. ——
We went to Teotihucan (City of Gods) and although the place was named by Aztecs, they were not the ones who built this site. Who knows who these people were or what they called this place. This site is quite impressive. The pyramids are large, one for the Sun and one for the Moon (also named by the Aztecs). People climb the Sun pyramid to get energized and so did we.
We also had a guided tour of the National Palace and learned quite a bit about Mexican history. Besides that we had an amazing lecture about Diego Rivera’s stunning murals in the Palace.

In my opinion, the most impressive part of the Mexico City was our trip to the Museum of Anthropology. 
The amount of information and remains of the indigenous people of Pre-Columbian time was really interesting and awe-inspiring.
