Concepción and Maderas

So we left the coast the other day and headed inland towards Ometepe, which means “two mountains or two volcanos” in one of the indigenous languages of Nicaragua.

Concepción from our room

We took at 15km ferry ride thru Lake Nicaragua over to the island, (took about an hour).   The island is stunningly lush, full of life. Our front door of the cabin we stayed in overlooked the lake and we could see the mainland. The back of our cabin had a view of one of the two volcanos. Again, it was beautiful.

Our stay on the island was only one night, but while we were there, we got to hike up a beautiful waterfall and swim in a spring-feed pool.

We would have loved to stay another day or two but we have to sacrifice some time in certain places.
