Travel Woes: \u00a0\u00a0We left Ometepe a bit too late, caught the last ferry & we we’re going to catch the last bus from Rivas to Granada, but come to find out, the Rivas bus terminal is not a place you want to visit after dark. \u00a0Our first attempt at locating nearby hotel was scary, but we eventually found a “just barely decent” place to lay our head for the night. \u00a0To see how we got from the island to Granada, click here.<\/a><\/p>\n

Onward….
\nWe arrived in Granada \u00a0early the next morning & took \u00a0a tour that afternoon. \u00a0Granada is a \u00a0colonial town and we found some sections quite nice. \u00a0Since the city has been burned three times, the colonial architecture is spotty, but none-the-less beautiful.<\/p>\n

The next afternoon we took a tour that dropped us off at one of the largest markets in the country inside the city of Masaya.<\/p>\n

Toxic Air at the Volcano<\/p><\/div>\n

 <\/p>\n

After our tour of the market, we took a 20 minute bus ride northwest to view a local active volcano, “Masaya” and it’s dormant volcanic neighbor,”Nindiri”. \u00a0 \u00a0The tops of these mountains provided us with the best view of the region that we could ask for.<\/p>\n

Jump for Joy<\/p><\/div>\n

Finally, we got to take a tour of a local cave that was formed due to a lava eruption many years ago. \u00a0We got to the cave at dusk and got introduced to the locals otherwise known as the 5000 bats that live in the cave. You’ll have to imagine because pictures without any light are pointless, but just picture yourself descending 180meters into a 30 meter deep cave with a flashlight and bats whizzing around your head. \u00a0It was quite the experience.<\/p>\n
